Sales Engineer
Be the engineer in the room — demos, scoping, and proof-of-concepts that turn conversations into projects.
About Afterrealism
Afterrealism is a small geospatial software consultancy in Canberra. We build maps, data platforms, and cloud systems for organisations across Australia to a standard set inside Geoscience Australia and CSIRO.
Small is the point: you work directly with the founder, your decisions ship, and you can see exactly where your work lands.
About the role
You sit where engineering meets the client: running demos, scoping solutions, building quick proof-of-concepts, and translating between what clients need and what we build.
This is a forward-deployed role. You'll spend real time with clients — in person and remote — understand their problems firsthand, and carry that context back into delivery. You can build, not just present.
What you'll do
- Run technical demos and discovery sessions with prospective clients
- Scope solutions and draft technical proposals with the principal engineer
- Build rapid proof-of-concepts that win work
- Support handover into delivery so nothing is lost between sale and build
- Feed client insight back into our products and positioning
What we're looking for
- A software or GIS engineering background — hands-on, current, credible
- Comfortable presenting to executives and engineers in the same meeting
- Clear writing for proposals and scoping documents
- Commercial instincts — you listen for the problem behind the request
Nice to have
- Geospatial domain experience
- Government procurement experience (tenders, panels)
- An existing network in Australian tech or government
